Giving Bad People Good Ideas
More Than The Fairy (feat. Les Claypool)
Death Grips is a difficult yet enthralling project, where the glitched out productions of blastbeat drummer Zach Hill and keyboardist Andy Morin accent the violently yelled raps of vocalist MC Ride. The experimental hip-hop project started out in Sacramento, California and put out it’s first mixtape “Exmilitary“ in 2011. Despite the album’s raging intensity, it became a favorite among critics upon it’s release.
Following a signing to Epic, Death Grips released “The Money Store“ in 2012. The label planned on delivering the follow-up album “No Love Deep Web“ that same year, but when Death Grips released it themselves as a free download, the group was let go from Epic. In 2014 the group announced their breakup as a PR action for their final album “The Powers That B”, which was officially released in 2015 after the first half of the double LP leaked in 2014. Of course the band didn’t break up, instead they announced their fifth LP “Bottomless Pit“. The album arrived in early 2016 to widespread acclaim. Following its release, the trio announced several European headline shows. They also returned to Berlin to play an unforgettable show at Berghain which was sold out within seconds after on-sale start.
In June 2018 Death Grips unleashed their anticipated new album, “Year of the Snitch”. The new album features a collaboration with Shrek director and composer Andrew Adamson and Tool bassist Justin Chancellor.
